چکیده

If the electrical resistance of a material depends upon external straining, the material exhibits ‘piezoresistivity’. The piezoresistive behavior has been realized in an electrically conductive elastomer composite where the microstructure of conductive fillers can be changed under finite deformation of elastomer, resulting in the change of the composite resistivity. In this paper, we analyze the piezoresistive behavior of a conductive short fiberrelastomer matrix composite by applying a percolation model. Fiber reorientation model is applied to the composite system with the aim of predicting the relation between the applied finite strain and the reorientation of conductive short fibers. It is found that the piezoresistive behavior of a conductive short fiberrelastomer composite is attributed to the degeneration of initially percolating network under the finite strain. Some numerical results are then compared with our previous experimental data, showing a reasonably good agreement. q 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Negative piezoresistivity in continuous carbon fiber epoxy-matrix composite

The negative and positive piezoresistivity in continuous carbon fiber epoxy-matrix composite has been clarified. The negative piezoresistivity associated with the increase of the through-thickness resistivity upon longitudinal tension and decrease in the throughthickness resistivity upon longitudinal compression is practically attractive for strain sensing and is attributed to the decrease in t...

The Effect of Matrix Bond Failure on Stress Distribution in Short and Long Fibers of a Hybrid Composite Lamina

Abstract : The effect of a bond failure and its extent is studied on stress concentration in long fibers as well as stress distribution in short fibers and their surrounding matrix bays. The material is assumed to be a finite width hybrid composite lamina which is subjected to a tensile load of magnitude "P" at infinity. The surrounding matrix is assumed to take only shear (shear-lag theory). T...

Analytical model of piezoresistivity for strain sensing in carbon fiber polymer–matrix structural composite under flexure

An analytical model is provided for the piezoresistive phenomenon of continuous carbon fiber polymer–matrix composite under flexure. This phenomenon allows strain sensing and entails reversible increase of the tension surface resistance and reversible decrease of the compression surface resistance during flexure. The model considers the surface resistance change to be due to change in the degre...
